APRA Clinical Research Grant – Pain in Childhood
CFK/APS/APRA Research Grant #4 – CFK has entered into a second, three year $90,000 commitment to support clinical paediatric research in partnership with the Australian Pain Society (APS) and the Australian Pain Relief Association (APRA), the only paediatric research grant in Australia. Work on Grant #4 has commenced with the first instalment of $15,000 forwarded. Visit the Australian Pain Society for more information.
$25,000 has been donated to The Epilepsy Centre of SA and NT to purchase 24 seizure monitors. These monitors, imported from Finland at a cost of $1,040 each, are attached to a child’s bed to detect movements similar to seizures, sounding an alarm and alerting the family. This device allows parents to sleep in their own beds at night instead of on the floor or in the child’s bed to ensure a child’s safety. These monitors will be supplied free to families with a child with Epilepsy. These monitors have proven to save lives. Information about The Epilepsy Centre can be found at epilepsycentre.org.au
CFK has also donated $7,589 to the Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club for the purchase of a mobi chair (an oversized wheel chair that allows disabled children to access the beach) and two special rescue boards in support of the Semaphore Seabirds initiative. Seabirds is an inclusive program for kids between 5 to 13 with additional needs, giving them an opportunity to participate in lifesaving activities. Semaphore SLSC piloted the program last year to great success. See this link about the program Seabirds Inclusive Nipper Program – Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club (semaphoreslsc.com.au)
