Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for teens and young adults. Cops for Kids has donated $10,000 to support a project developing videos designed to provide support and mental health guidance to support children. This project is lead by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAHMS) at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital but supported by the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation and Cops For Kids.

The aim of the project is to create age/culturally appropriate videos and resources that convey clear, practical, and compassionate support for young people.  These resources will be available to those youths at risk of suicide at the earliest opportunity and are designed to provide support and mental health guidance for children and adolescents who have expressed suicidal ideation.  The resources also provide information and support to caregivers as well.

By making mental health support easily accessible and relevant to young people at risk, we are more likely to make connections that could help avoid the unnecessary loss of a young life.  These aides teach valuable life skills to assist maintain their mental health and seek to avoid the overwhelming difficulties of seeking external support or navigating emergency departments in the throes of a mental health crisis.
