On 22 February 2016, a donation was made to Kidsafe, a charity dedicated to the prevention of unintentional injuries and death of children.
In Australia, transport related injuries are the leading cause of death and the second most common cause of hospitalisation for children aged zero to 14 years. There is overwhelming evidence that a combination of safer vehicle design and correct child restraint use can be effective in reducing child deaths and severity of injuries. Despite this evidence, many children are not restrained in appropriate child restraints
The donation will be used to fund a series of free child car restraint compliance days at major outer metropolitan shopping centres and country locations. On these days Kidsafe will provide qualified car seat fitters to check that car seats are correctly fitted in vehicles. The data compiled from these days will also be used in future road safety campaigns.
