Operation Flinders aims to transform young people’s lives through engaging in challenging outdoor adventure therapy experiences. Cops for Kids has previously donated towards the work done by Operation Flinders, and when they reached out to us again, we were able to provide assistance that will benefit hundreds of young people.
Operation Flinders activities are designed to build participants personal skills, resilience, self-esteem, responsibility, leadership, teamwork, motivation, and ambition. Ongoing support is also provided to help participants grow as valued members of the community and develop positive pathways towards achieving employment. Cops for Kids has previously sponsored several regional groups participation.
In order to meet the logistics demand for the many groups participating in Operation Flinders, a replacement field delivery trailer was needed after the severe terrain finally got the better of the old trailer. Operation Flinders program is conducted on Yankaninna Station, a 563 sq. km. property in the northern Flinders Ranges through some challenging terrain. Approximately 18 different campsites are spread across the property that cater for teams of 9-10 young people. The trailer will be used by the volunteers to set-up and pack-up each campsite, ensuring that the safety needs, equipment, rations and water requirements are met as well as ensuring the natural environment is maintained.
The donation of $15,900 to purchase the new trailer will have significant long-term benefits for Operation Flinders and enable them to continue to help approximately 400 different young people aged between 13 and 18 years old each year. Recently, the 10,000th young person received the benefit of the Operation Flinders experience.
