Cops for Kids continues to support the Aboriginal Basketball Academy (ABA), with the second instalment in our three-year partnership, funding of $15,000.
The ABA exists as a pathway to support Indigenous Year 10-12 students to develop themselves by participating in a basketball program though the main emphasis is on attendance, participation, education, personal development, teamwork, leadership and community.
The ABA is supported by a full-time teacher, an Aboriginal Mentor along with Aboriginal role models/mentors. The program is designed to be a school retention program and aims to see graduating students transition into further study or meaningful employment, including the opportunity to work at South Australia Police (SAPOL).
The program is also supported by the South Australia Police Basketball Club, who regularly engage with ABA members on and off the court to strengthen ties between Indigenous youth, SAPOL and Cops for Kids members.
