Cops for Kids has continued its partnership with United Way to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. $7,200 has been donated to support a new program in the Onkaparinga district following CFK’s support of this program in the northern suburbs of Adelaide in 2024 and 2025.
Children enrolled in the program will receive a free, high quality, age-appropriate book in the mail each month for twelve months. Books are hand-picked by a committee of academics, authors, Indigenous advisors, teachers and librarians ensuring they reflect the diversity of the wider community and include themes and concepts that support developing minds to grow to help kids start a lifelong love of reading.
Around 1 in 3 children are starting school without the basic literacy and communication skills they need, and in some communities within Onkaparinga, developmental vulnerability is significantly higher. For children who have limited access to books in their home, the learning gap can begin well before their first day of school.
This donation will help children build vocabulary, confidence, communication and school readiness during the years when their developing brain is most responsive to the experiences around them.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a worldwide movement where over two million books are distributed each month. More information about this program can be found at unitedwaysa.com.au.
