Operation Flinders operate three specific programs that require appropriate and specialised footwear to ensure participant safety and comfort. These programs, Step Out, Adventure Mentoring and Core Exercise, involve remote activities in the Flinders Ranges that are designed to build personal skills, resilience, self-esteem, responsibility, leadership, teamwork, motivation, and ambition for the over 200 participants each year.
Participants in these programs are young people in early intervention programs, young people in care or those experiencing disadvantage. With funding assistance from Cops for Kids, the provision of durable hiking boots will ensure inclusive involvement for all attendees and full engagement in the demanding outdoor endeavours.
Financial support from Cops for Kids will be $14,000 a year over a three year partnership, which will secure the purchase of essential items for these core programs.
