Safety Boost for Booster Seat Program

A partnership between Kidsafe SA, Cops for Kids and St John’s Grammar School has commenced to ensure the safety of children in their school bus.

A retired Police Officer who volunteers at St Johns Grammar School was propelled to act after hearing of a tragic incident. In May 2023, an horrific school bus crash occurred in Victoria resulting in significant injuries and the hospitalisation of the school children.  Not wanting to see the same thing happen again, he initiated a plan to make sure the school bus was as safe as it could be.

An adult seatbelt won’t generally fit a child properly until they are at least 145cm tall and children should remain in a booster seat until they can wear a seatbelt safely.  Thanks to a volunteer’s passion for child welfare, a partnership was formed between St John’s Grammar School, Cops for Kids and Kidsafe SA to fund a pilot program.

Cops for Kids has donated $1,976 to purchase 40 booster seats and Kidsafe SA provided the training to ensure the booster seats would be fitted correctly.
