The relationship between children and horses can have a therapeutic effect for children. Riding for the Disabled believe that all children should have this opportunity and Cops for Kids is providing support with the development of a new ramp to ensure children with disabilities can enjoy this activity.
Riding for the Disabled (RDA) is a voluntary, nonprofit organisation providing opportunities for anyone with a disability to participate in and enjoy horse-related activities in a safe and inclusive environment. The bulk of the clients of Riding for the Disabled are children. The therapeutic benefits of the interaction between children and the horses can be life changing.
But what if you are trying to put a child with a significant disability on a horse and your only option is this?
Well what you do is contact Cops for Kids.
Riding for the Disabled sought funding from Cops for Kids for the construction of a custom-made mounting ramp for the largest RDA centre at O’Halloran Hill. The ramp would allow far easier access for all participants to mount their horses safely and easily and can be assisted by others.
Cops for Kids has donated $15,800 to build the ramp which is currently under construction. Not only will this donation assist the current clients of RDA, but it will also offer an improved services to those children who previously could not go to RDA as it was impossible to mount a horse because of the old facilities.
