Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation logo

CFK has donated $24,000 to WCHF to purchase much-needed tools to help keep children calm while they wait for therapy or procedures.

2 SmileyscopeVR Headsets for Play Therapists to use with patients.

Smileyscopegoggles take WCHN patients on Virtual Reality (VR) adventures to relieve their stress and anxiety to make their procedures more seamless and get them home quicker.  Using Virtual Reality for paediatric patients has been found to reduce a child’s pain by up to 60%, reduce their anxiety by 40% and reduce the need for restraint by 48%, all of which will help save time soothing patients and reduce their time overall in the medical setting.

Here is an example of an intro video a patient would see before their procedure.

Development toys for Speech and Occupational Therapy patients.

The purpose designed toys are for use with patients during therapy sessions, but also to set up a display of suitable toys for encouraging play with children at home which can help open-ended play that develops language and motor skills.

These specially selected toys allow for a welcoming environment and enjoyable interactions between staff and families during wait times or during assessment, therapy sessions and procedures which can be scary, uncomfortable and even painful.
